The internal tee nuts which hold the grudgeon to the stern are of common steel and will rust away sight unseen. They are held by an internal piece of wood which does not fare much better. An access hole can/must be cut in the upper rear deck just forward of the grudgeon without any complications, and covered by a removable cover... alum., plastic, etc. The addition of a wooden vertical internal support under the deck will allay any weakness caused by your incision.
