The Seaward Fox is an evolution of earlier very similar designs from the same manufacturer, the Slipper 17 and the Seaward 17. The manufacturer listed varies from Hake yachts to Starboard Yachts to Seaward Yachts dependent perhaps on the year. Please see my Seaward Fox review under the Seaward 17 listing of this pocket cruiser guide.

I like this boat. So much about it is unique and after some use, I can see that it is well thought out. For example, the hull has unusually high freeboard for a boat this size. The result is no need for coamings around the cockpit since the topsides are high, and it has 5' bulwarks around the foredeck. No coamings to fall over and bulwarks around the bow make going forward feel much safer, and make the boat dryer in a seaway. A small penalty in hull windage gives sensible improvements in comfort and safety, a good trade-off in a cruising boat.

I've only sailed my '93 Seaward Fox five times so I'm admittedly still in the honeymoon phase, but I'm quite impressed with the boat.
